BUILDING AN ADU
Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are becoming extremely popular – and legal in many areas! With our country in a housing gap in which millions of people are unhoused, living with family members, or are simply priced out of the market, we have to find better ways to build. Couple that with construction getting pricier, good buildable land getting scarcer, and cities are finding infrastructure improvements are pricey as well, ADUs have become a very logical answer to increasing housing supply in order to increase housing affordability.
Are you thinking about building an ADU? With HB 1337 that passed in Washington State in 2023, cities throughout Washington will be be required to allow these to be built (with exceptions, of course). This will allow homeowners to house additional family members or friends, generate rental income, or even be able to stay in their homes in their existing beloved neighborhoods and rent out their primary residences in order to receive rental income.
Designing ADUs is one of our specialties. We love taking a look at existing site conditions to determine what type of housing would be a good fit to add. It is exciting to design very efficient spaces and make them feel light and airy.
